When I reflect on my journey so far, I realize that two passions have guided me—law and leadership. Growing up, I was always drawn to stories of people creating positive change, whether by advocating for mental health, protecting animal rights, or standing up for justice. Over time, I’ve found my way to these same causes, not just as a supporter but as an active participant.
It all began with volunteering. From organizing school events to supporting initiatives like Sending Sunshine and local Iftar programs, I discovered the joy of helping others. These experiences sparked my love for leadership, which grew as I took on roles such as Student Senator and President of the Youth Council for MPP Stephen Crawford. With each new challenge, I learned more about communication, problem-solving, and the importance of representing others’ voices.
Another pivotal moment came when I attended Youth Summer Program (YSP) courses in law at the University of Toronto. These experiences opened my eyes to the power of the legal system—not just as a set of rules but as a tool to protect the vulnerable and bring about meaningful change. It made me realize that law was more than a career path; it was my way of making a difference.
Currently, I’m fortunate to be working with Professor Fernandez on the Animal Law Rights Digest, gaining deeper insight into advocacy through legal frameworks. My co-op placement at the Oakville Mayor’s Office has also given me valuable experience in public service—whether it’s drafting speeches or reviewing reports, every task feels like a step closer to my dream of becoming a lawyer.
My journey is far from over, and I know there’s so much more to learn. But each experience—big or small—has shaped the person I am today. As I move forward, my goal is to pursue law at the University of Toronto and continue using my leadership skills to make a positive impact. I believe that with dedication, hard work, and a commitment to justice, I can build a future where I leave every space better than I found it.
